Since there hasn’t yet been a sequel to Dead Head Fred, you’ll have to go elsewhere for your horror-gaming fix. Luckily, the PSP has a couple of other options for all you thrill junkies out there.Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was released on PSP in March. The latest in the long-running Silent Hill series, this title is also a remake of the original game. For those who complained about the battle system in Dead Head Fred, you’ll love the system in Silent Hill: there isn’t one. Instead, players take on the role of Harry Mason as he searches for his daughter Cheryl after a car accident in the town of Silent Hill. The game takes its horror from the random labyrinths of ice that periodically appear in the town, and the unbeatable monsters that accompany them.As Harry, your only tools are a flashlight and a cell phone, which is used for taking pictures and finding hidden messages. The game also offers replay value, as your answers during in-game therapy sequences can change the appearance of monsters, main characters, and the ending. For a more action-packed experience, and also one more in line with the tongue-in-cheek nature of Dead Head Fred, there’s the early PSP game Death Jr.. In this title, you take the role of the Grim Reaper’s son, and slash your way through a horde of enemies including wraiths, toads, and spiders. The gameplay is mostly fighting with some awkward platforming sequences thrown in, but those shouldn’t detract from your experience too much. Besides, the main character (known as DJ) is just too cute to ignore, and his romance with his classmate Pandora, a goth girl with a penchant for opening locked boxes, provides a nice background to the action.
